Top 5 Suggestions to Survive a Holiday without Wi-Fi?
We recently spent a family holiday with our son in a log cabin in Scotland that had no Wi-Fi and with a little advanced planning it was a liberating experience. I didn’t even take my mobile phone as I knew my wife had hers in case of any emergencies.
In today’s world where we wake up on a morning and check the mobile to read the latest news, sign into social media accounts to see what friends and colleagues have been up to. What would you do if there was no Wi-Fi connection on holiday?
Would you survive a holiday without Wi-Fi? Would you dare to book a week’s holiday without Wi-Fi and what would do to keep yourself occupied?
Here are our suggestions:
1) Take some good books or load your kindle and indulge yourself enjoying that novel, autobiography or skill that you always wanted to learn.
2) Buy a newspaper to keep up with current affairs or better still don’t bother! We didn’t.
3) Take plenty of board and traditional games to keep everyone entertained such as – Monopoly, Cluedo, Snakes & Ladders, Guess Who, Connect Four and don’t forget a pack of Playing Cards. These were our games but there’s many more you could take.
3) Take some new DVD’s you haven’t watched or your family favourites to watch again. Our Log Cabin didn’t have a DVD player so we spent many hours enjoying each other’s company, playing board games and walking in the local area.
4) Go for family walks and talk to each other about what you see, current affairs and what’s happening in each other’s lives.
5) Visit the local attractions and learn about the area, which provides hours of discussions in the planning and after the visits.
We survived a holiday without Wi-Fi and found ourselves interacting far more as a family and all agreed that we needed days without Wi-Fi whilst at home, but could you?
We encourage you to give it a go, in this modern world where we spend far too much time staring into our mobile devices, talking over the internet, why not capture those moments as a family and talk in person - with each other and learn what really counts!
